Job Title: Legal Operations Manager
Reports to and Location:
The Legal Operations Manager will report to the SVP, Legal in our Norwalk office.
The role of the Legal Operations Manager will involve supporting the legal team by creating and/or managing organizational and operational processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. The Legal Operations Manager will oversee a variety of operational areas for the department such as improving processes, assisting in managing the Company’s legal control environment, managing the contracts approval and storage process, and overseeing legal billing and budgeting. The role requires an organized, detail-oriented, and highly efficient individual with great interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Process improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve processes, share best practices, develop playbooks and train and improve efficiency with the legal team’s organizational structure, systems and technologies. The role will stay aware of legal operations industry trends and advise on needed upgrades and improvements to business processes and tools.
Assistance in Managing Control Environment: Experience with designing, implementing and monitoring controls and the control environment relevant to the Legal Department.
Project management: Define roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, and timelines for project tasks. Coordinating the activities of cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful execution.
Reporting & Analytics: Develop and implement appropriate metrics and benchmarking through data analytics to measure the legal team’s performance both within and outside the department.
Budget management: Manage departmental budget, including the planning cycle within the company timeline.
Legal Vendor management: Supervise expense control and guide the Legal department’s external vendor relations, including overseeing vendor and law firm rates, alternative and fixed pricing billing and compliance with company policies and billing guidelines. Manage Legal Tracker legal billing process.
Contract Management: Work with legal and business teams to facilitate the company’s contract management technology, including contract tracking, record-keeping, and coordinating signatures.
Litigation Support: Oversee and manage cost effective litigation support and develop and maintain enterprise wide e-discovery processes and policies.
Bachelor’s Degree required; JD not required but a plus
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience as a legal operations manager, legal assistant, paralegal or comparable legal management role
Demonstrated experience of streamlining legal processes and administering contract and legal matter management systems
High level of experience managing various legal-oriented administrative tasks with ease
Strong PowerPoint, G-suite and Excel skills; ability to understand new technology systems
Ability to read, understand and draft contractual terms using a standard playbook; experience in redlining and negotiating agreements and legal invoices
Prior experience working directly with key stakeholders throughout an organization including senior leadership, finance and HR
Good judgment, high integrity, and strong communication skills
Comfortable operating under pressure/with sense of urgency
In-house experience in a technology company legal department a plus
Some travel may be required with this position (post-Covid)
